Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Guillermo Cabrera Infante spent most of his youth living in the south of the country. He got his first break as a writer at age 23, when he was hired by the newspaper El Nacional to write a column. His first novel, La Virgen de los Pecados (The Woman of the Sins) was published in 1987; it became a bestseller and won several prestigious prizes. In 1994, he released A Brief History of Time as part of the Anchor Paperback Original Series. A year later, he made his directorial debut with Seven Mysteries of Mexico, an experimental documentary filmed entirely in English and Spanish. In 1997, he released Your Face Tomorrow as part of the Anchor Paperback Original Series.
